  1. Hi everyone! We have internally voted on the winners for this weeks theme "Fireworks" and choose our two favorite GIFs and a honorable mention! All three will receive a Nimbatus Closed Alpha Key via PM. Thank you very much for participating! If you didn't participate this time, we're permanently having GIF competitions with new themes, so please enter in the next competition. Check the Thread here to go to the newest competition: Sumo Battle! And now to the winners of this weeks GIF Contest "Fireworks": @Notifind For this awesome, clever and simply beautiful display of effects. We would love to sit there on the planet and see this spectacle in real life Congratulations! @Killerwombat02 For this clever use and misuse of drone parts to create a realistic display of fireworks and creating a perfectly timed gif. Congratulations! And our honorable mention goes to @Gamma Warrior! For his nice set of gifs with his Party Machine which surprised us of how many different fireworks it could produce. Congratulations! I will send you three the Steam Keys via PM shortly. Thank you all again for participating. We were having a great time watching your creations!

  2. Okay, it took a while cuz it's my work week and most of my time has been spent at work, but when not at work I played with these sketches So here's my edited art! Tree: Grassland: Savannah: Home Island: Beach: Underwater: Swamp: Jungle: Mountain: Snow: I actually really like this instead of the textured stuff I tried to do before <3 Thanks for helping me!

  4. Hi everyone The 2nd GIF competition has ended. There were AWESOME entries, thank you all for participating! So let's go right ahead and start a new one! This competition's theme is: Sumo Battle This time, only GIFs are allowed which play in the Sumo Arena (Sumo Arena, Sumo Training Arena). Post your most clever/cool/strongest, funniest/narrowly winning sumo drone GIFs and win a Closed Alpha key! The deadline to enter is Wednesday, 30th of May. Here are the rules: Post your GIF right here in this thread. Multiple entries per person are allowed. Only GIFs recorded with the demo version are allowed in this competition. @Roger, @Markus, @Micha and @Philo will pick 2 favorites. The 2 winners receive a Closed Alpha Steam key for free There will be only awarded one key per person. If you won in a previous contest, we won't award you another key. Please note: You can use [F9] to generate an animated GIF of the last 6 seconds gameplay, but feel free to use other tools. Remember that the best GIF wins! So even if your drone in awesome in terms of logic, make sure to also make those features shine in the spot light! For this contest the best looking GIF wins. We'll have contests which award pure logic/cleverness at a later time. We maybe show some of these cool gifs on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Please only post here if that's ok with you. Tipp: The GIF capture tool hides bad framerates. If you turn off the Bloom because of performance reasons, turn them on before recording the GIF. The game might have a low frame rate, but the resulting GIF should run smoothly and might result in nicer looking GIF because of the effects.

  5. Let the Nimbatus have some abilities/upgrades like -scanning a planet for resources to see if there is none, little or medium ore could be free, pay for upgrades so see which and how many of each resource there is. -showing the scanned resources on the minimap -reducing the time to scan a planet -scan there the enemys are -upgrade the minimap to see the outer/inner structure of the planet

  6. Why is my brain showing pictures of battering rams and other medieval siege weapons? Up!

  7. Upvoted We neglected the meele weapons a bit since the demo. You have some great ideas to improve them. I especially like the idea of having weapons that apply some kind of knockback or interact with the physics more. Plasma spikes that heats up enemies and lets them burn also sounds fun.

  8. Hi folks Friends of us just launched their board game on Kickstarter. Would be aweome if you support them! I chose the "Origin of Species" reward and will design a Nicheling head as my special reward Our team tested it and had a great time some weeks ago

  10. Hello, I think it would be a nice think to add an option to change the name of savefiles after they were created. I often end up with 3 or more savefiles that are titled ''New game'' or weird stuff like ''agkhlsderflz'' (I know very good name huh) when I create new saves to test things out. Then I realize I like playing with those saves but am unable to change for a better name. I guess it would be a helpfull adition for people that are bad at naming like I am. Aditionally, maybe a random savefile name generator could be nice to help the naming too! That's my suggestions, thank you for reading!

  11. Having the ability to change the speed of a motorized hinge would be really cool, it would make for some very effective land vehicles ^-^ The lasers also have a weird way of splitting where its not centered if there is more then one beam, it feels kind of weird to work with so I feel it could benefit from a more symmetric split.

  12. Hey I was thinking about a Body Type that would overwrite the colors of a creature like Toxic Body does, but instead of standing out with intimidating warning colors, it would help the Nichelings to blend in perfectly with their enviroment: the Chameleon Body A chameleon changes his colors based on what they see to blend in so I suggest the colors would change depending on what biom-tile they are standing on. The pattern would still be the same (a spotted one would still be spotted, a striped striped...) but also change in color depending on the biom. I made a picture for illustration 5 times the same nicheling in different enviroments (I forgot the beach and the water but you hopefully get what I mean) I'd like if the body could be made to look slightly scaly instead of fluffy ^-^ It would give a lot of camouflage but has next to no other benefits, maybe heat resistance +1 or 2 but cold resistance -1 or 2 if anything Let me know what you think

  13. A module that can build/spawn sub-drones. Some special form of decoupler or somthing like that, where the decoupled part can be replicated. It should cost energy and time and/or a special resource. Maybe the core has some sort of special energy that doesn't replenish over time. Could be upgraded to hold higher ammounts.

  14. I think a really cool feature to have in the game would be scent marking so creatures can more efficiently separate into clans or tribes and make claims on territories. This could happen by a certain button on the keyboard (maybe P, would make sense but don't know if that already does something) that allows the creature to leave it's scent on the tile it's standing on. this 'scent' could then be seen in scent mode, maybe as the color of the gem the creature had who made it since different creatures would have different scents. I just thought of this right now so there's probably a lot of flaws in my idea, if anyone likes the idea of this or has some recommendations of how it could be fixed up to make more sense please let me know in the comments because I think this could be a cool addition to the game, especially for players with really large packs. Thanks for reading

  15. The weapon tech tree is awesome and I think the game could really benefit from more focus on melee as well. For example, we can have variants like on guns but on melee (cryogenic, kinetic, plasma, etc...) inflicting enemies with the effect upon impact. It would be cool to see damage upgrades and maybe something like knockback? so that when you hit enemies they can get pushed back. (This would also include TNT except for the knockback, but it would have some sort of explosion radius? or maybe different ways to detonate [Impact, timed, button]) Some new melee weapons would also be awesome to see, like maybe a spear (So like a spike but longer) I don't have many ideas for different melee weapons but I think the upgrades would definitely add a lot themselves.

  17. Ok this is actually more of a role-play aspect of the game. Perhaps there should be a little bubble that you can write stuff about that particular niche. Maybe about the most successful babies born to that niche, roles in the tribe, or just little reminders to breed that niche with another! It would be really helpful to me, who often forgets about breeding my best niches together, and it would be fun to make a little story in the progress!

  18. Hey, I love what you’re doing here and it’s not really for me but, may I suggest making it into a google sheets page instead? I think it’d work a lot better and if you don’t know how to use it that well, I can help you make one.

  19. Right-click on the niche in the list of installed games, go to properties and select the beta-tab. In the drop-down menu select beta and press ok. That should do it. Hop that helps!

  20. Little binary-based counter. A little bit glitchy, but thats becouse gates react too fast/late for this system.

  23. The reason I suggest using the decoupler as a small drone core is so that you can't go in with an itty-bitty drone, and just manufacture thousands of little sub-drones to swamp the entire planet as a one-size-fits-all strategy. With the exception of retrieval missions (and even those, if you have smart enough recovery drones that you dispatch first) this could easily become a dominant strategy. For example, if your sub-drone had a manufacturing part that made a copy of itself, you might swarm the map with an infinity of drones. By making the decoupling point a drone core, you can hold back rebuild ONLY when the drone core (thus the entire sub-drone) is completely defunct or destroyed. By limiting the number of cores, you can limit the number of autonomous elements available to the player, as well, if that suits development goals. By limiting the number of sub-parts, you also limit the player's capacity to make drones that build drones that build drones, as well as limiting their ability to just make their main drone manufacture itself, giving it a regenerative capacity.

  25. This is the: Deadly Firework Drone! First off, it can punch things with its firework fists Second, It can charge up for a really awesome firework blast using shotguns and magnets Third, it can throw the firework fists and detonate them! Finally, the shotguns have a second use, Movement! The shotguns 200% knock back Can be used to propel it any way you want! I hope you enjoyed!

  26. Yeah I always liked the look of the aquatic genes, but after I bred my first webbed necheling I realized how... unhelpful the genes are as the game currently is. Runner's leg at least gives collecting. Also I like the Idea of the gills head unlocking an underwater smelling trait

  27. A decoupler block that doubles as a drone core; the decoupler can only have a certain number of child parts. You need energy, fuel, a number of thrusters, some logic, and guns or drills, whatever tools. A limit of 10-20 child parts, with more parts available for bigger sub-cores. You can limit the number of cores usable on a single drone, and not rebuild them until the core is destroyed/ self-destructs, and/or put a time-limit on them so you can't flood the map with drones.

  28. Either it could be a body and cancel out the tail like Spiked Body does, or it could be a tail, either way I love this idea <3 I think the body giving flying in addition to the attractiveness would be cool, and as for the attractiveness I like it functioning like a tree stump.

  29. We're interested in analog logic and open to try out different things to improve the current system. But keep in mind it's not something that's implemented quickly and we need a solid concept first We just did not have time yet to delve into this. I would prefer if the logic / sensor parts work in the same way than the rest of the parts. So new players understand quickly how they work, and can even test it by pressing some keys. Therefore just adding analog inputs / outputs to a subset of existing parts is not the right solution in my opinion as it adds a layer of complexity and makes the logic system less accessible. The transition between building self controlled drones and building autonomous drones should be as smooth as possible. I have not yet found a solution that allows full complexity and is easy to understand for everyone. So I'm happy for all your feedback and ideas regarding this.

  30. I'm already planning a system of cursor and directional sensor to auto-switch between camera blocks. More when I get home and try things out.

  31. We've added a Buffer logic part to 0.3.2 closed alpha.

  32. I was thinking of a drone with chain of autonomous parts that just keep station above you in a magnetized, self-powered group, and being able to de-couple your weapon (at which point it'd be disconnected from an input and would magnetize to the satellite drone) and re-couple a different weapon. Your own personal tool rack, following you around in orbit.

  33. Relatively few of them, mind; not everybody will like this. But autonomous challenges would be nice. Perhaps a specific arena that randomly generates missions of a particular type for autonomous runs, with hunt/kill, collection, mining, etc challenges available.

  34. I know that nichelings will fly soon, but it would also be cool if they were able to glide like a flying squirrel. Maybe that would give them the ability to collect coconuts, and possibly bird eggs?

  36. heh, I renamed my firstborn Kain on my first story playthrough. Personally I think the name Iaril is kind of cute (pronounced Ya-rill in my head). Also if those syllables are added this means DukkuSan is a possible outcome, and that's more of a riot than DukDukku

  37. I do like the Idea of a cave biome. This would work well in tandem with an update that could allow nechelings who can't see the ability to move a space into unseen ground (like you see wanderers/rogues doing). Dude Yes giant spider! and in lieu of circling you could either see it hanging from the top or there could be some telltale cobwebs about to warn you that you have entered it's territory.

  38. @MysticTopaz They look awesome but a bit too textured for ingame I think but as fanart/concept art they are great! and I didn't mean for them to be covered in scales all over, just a hint of scales at the breast like the strands of fur we get on normal body without having it everywhere, the rest would be filled out by imagination ^^ and for the leaf/sky one, I like it but again, it is too textured for ingame I think, ingame they are all solid colored. so maybe the sky blue could be the overwrite color for the pattern? I made an example how a spotted one would then look when sitting on a tree, but very simplistic whithout texture, just color and outlines as we get ingame

  39. Maybe we could have moles, but they would act a bit more like rabbils, since you're underground? Also, for the cave predator, maybe it could be a blind spider/lizard creature?

  40. Okay, I finished the pictures! I know you mentioned you wanted scales like a reptile body, and I tried to edit together some scales for the body, but I personally had some difficulties, so I've got one picture with the scales and all the rest just have a 'rough' texture to them. Hope you don't mind! I also added in a 'tree' version, and I tried to make it look like mostly leaves with some blue mixed in like seeing the sky through the leaves. Not sure how well it went, but I tried lol Scales: Tree: Grassland: Savannah: Home Island: Beach: Underwater: Swamp: Jungle: Mountain: Snow: Just a note: The body I drew is sleek and kinda bean-shaped because I noticed that, when a chameleon is 'sitting up' or stretching toward something, it's actually kinda thin, whereas in most of the pictures you see on google, they're sitting down on all fours and look hunch-backed and chubby. Since Nichelings are sitting up, I went with a thinner look

  42. Sounds nice! Few suggestions: The day before a tree falls, it should have a crack in it's trunk so you could avoid it. Also it should make a cracking noise. You should be able to gather nestingmaterial and nuts from fallen trees but once they're empty, they're empty and will disappear. It would take 10 days for a fallen tree to despawn. They despawn faster if you collect from them. Also if you collec all they have to offer, they despawn during the next night. Armored body would protect the nicheling so it would only take damage from the hit. It would still be stuck under the tree and it would take damage every day until the tree despawns. Also it could protect baby nichelings by standing in between the tree and the baby. Stones would do the same thing.
